Houston<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A tough outing for the Houston Astros on Tuesday night as they fell 6-1 to the Colorado Rockies in the first game of their three-game series at Daikin Park. Despite a solid start from pitcher\u00a0Hunter Brown<\/i>, the Astros were unable to recover from a rough third inning that saw Colorado put up four runs.<\/span><\/p>

Rockies Exploit Astros’ Mistakes<\/span><\/b><\/p>

Colorado wasted little time getting on the board, scoring two runs in the third inning.\u00a0Brenton Doyle<\/i>\u00a0started the rally with a fly out, but the Rockies then benefited from a series of errors and key hits. With\u00a0Kyle Karros<\/i>\u00a0aboard after a single and\u00a0Ryan Ritter<\/i>\u00a0reaching on an error by Astros shortstop\u00a0Jeremy Pe\u00f1a<\/i>, the Rockies capitalized on the miscue.\u00a0Tyler Freeman<\/i>\u00a0grounded out, but\u00a0Karros<\/i>\u00a0scored on the play, tying the game at 1-1.<\/span><\/p>

The Rockies didn\u2019t stop there.\u00a0Mickey Moniak<\/i>\u00a0followed with a single to right, scoring Ritter and giving Colorado a 2-1 lead. Moniak then stole second base, and\u00a0Hunter Goodman<\/i>\u00a0put the game further out of reach with a 1-1 count home run to left, bringing in Moniak for a 4-1 lead.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Astros’ Offense Stifled<\/span><\/b><\/p>

Despite several scoring opportunities, Houston\u2019s offense struggled to find any rhythm against Rockies’ pitching. Their lone run came in the second inning, when\u00a0Jes\u00fas\u00a0S\u00e1nchez<\/i>\u00a0took a pitch from Colorado\u2019s starter\u00a0Tanner Gordon<\/i>\u00a0deep over the right field wall for a solo home run.<\/p>

The Astros had other chances but couldn\u2019t capitalize. In the second inning, they loaded the bases with two outs after\u00a0Pe\u00f1a <\/i>and\u00a0Altuve<\/i>\u00a0reached base and\u00a0Yordan Alvarez<\/i>\u00a0walked, but\u00a0Christian Walker<\/i>\u00a0flied out to right, leaving the runners stranded.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

“We had some good opportunities early on, but we just couldn’t string things together,”\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Altuve<\/i>\u00a0noted after the loss. “We need to focus on staying patient and capitalizing on those situations.”<\/p><\/blockquote>

Solid Pitching from Brown, But Not Enough<\/b><\/p>

Hunter Brown<\/i>\u00a0(8-8, 3.72 ERA) was solid for Houston, tossing five innings and allowing just two earned runs despite giving up six hits. However, the Astros\u2019 bullpen didn\u2019t fare much better in keeping the Rockies at bay. After\u00a0Brown<\/i>\u00a0left the game,\u00a0Steven Okert<\/i>\u00a0and Kaleb Ort<\/i>\u00a0entered to pitch in relief, but the Rockies added two more insurance runs in the fifth on Moniak\u2019s double and an additional hit from\u00a0Ritter<\/i>.<\/p>

Late Attempts Fall Short<\/b><\/p>

In the later innings, the Astros tried to mount a comeback.\u00a0Pe\u00f1a<\/i>\u00a0reached base with a walk in the seventh inning, and\u00a0Carlos Correa<\/i>\u00a0also walked in the same frame, but both runners were stranded when\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Altuve<\/i>\u00a0struck out to end the threat.<\/p>

In the ninth inning,\u00a0Dub\u00f3n<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Melton<\/i>\u00a0reached base with walks, but once again, the Astros couldn\u2019t get the clutch hit, and the game ended with\u00a0Altuve<\/i>\u00a0flying out to center, securing the victory for the Rockies.<\/p>

What’s Next for the Astros?<\/b><\/p>

The loss drops Houston to a 77-59 record, and they will need to regroup quickly as they attempt to salvage the last 2\u00a0 games of the series.\u00a0<\/p>

For Colorado (57-78), the win provided a much-needed boost, as they aim to finish the season strong despite a challenging year.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
